3 CENTERS BREATHING AND PRANAYAMA VARIATIONS

In this class you will learn about the muscles that you use to breathe and practice exercises to make them strong and supple.

This will make you feel stronger, energized, clear headed, relaxed, and will reduce pain.

CLEARING YOUR CHI

Your chi moves with your breath. It doesn’t move with the air you breathe, but the muscular movements of your breath. When your breathing is weak and shallow your chi becomes stagnant. Developing your breath deepens and increases your chi circulation. This vitalizes you and clears stagnation from your whole body.


TRAINING YOUR RESPIRATORY MUSCLES

Diaphragm, Intercostals, Scalenes, Levator Costarum, Obliques, Tranvserse Abdominis, Quadratus Lumborum, and Pelvic Floor Muscles. These are the muscles of respiration. They not only make you breathe but they have a huge impact on your posture and spinal movement. When these muscles are tight and weak they play a major role in poor posture, headaches, and back pain. Training these muscles helps relieve all of these symptoms.


SUPPORT ORGAN HEALTH

Every time you breath your diaphragm pulls on your heart and pericardium. At the same time it moves and massages all of your digestive organs. This is part of your bodies basic maintenance for organ health. Restoring the strength and motion to your diaphragm restores this central motion of homeostasis.


DEVELOP MIND/BODY CONNECTION

These breathing exercises will help you develop a deep internal mind/body connection. This is a necessary skill for self healing through chi circulation and a precursor awareness for deep energy circulation in meditation.


EMOTIONAL AWARENESS AND REGULATION

Your emotions, energy, and breathing are completely interconnected. As you develop your breathing your will gain understanding of this internal relationship. And even better, you can learn to regulate your emotions and energy with your breath. This is one of the deepest possibilities for healing because many of the stagnations in then physical body are manifestations of stuck emotional energy.


CLASSES COVERED THIS SEPTEMBER:

BREATHING MECHANICS - LEVEL 1

This is the first step in 3 Centers Breathing. In this you will learn the 3 centers of focus (Head, Chest, Abdomen) and the associated respiratory movements. This is a practice of developing the most natural and uncontrived breathing possible. You will gain awareness and control of your breathing in all 3 centers. This practice is deeply centering, relaxing, and restorative.

PRANAYAMA VARIATIONS - LEVEL 2

This is the second step in 3 Centers Breathing. This level uses variations of Bhastirka and Kapalabhati pranayama to build heat and increase chi circulation in alignment with the Breathing Mechanics learned in level 1. This will strengthen and mobilize all of your respiratory muscles to release internal tensions and restore breathing volume. This practice clears stagnation and detoxifies the body. It is a strong, clarifying practice that will leave you feeling pleasantly tired and refreshed.

CENTERING YOUR CHI

This is the most central technique of chi gong. Centering your chi is the fundamental way to access your life force, strengthen your meridian system, and calm your nervous system. It is also the ultimate technique for becoming fully present in your body.
